Ann Serrano is a popular American producer, actress, activist, and writer. You might recognize her from her appearances in some shows, like Arrested Development and the Goerge Lopez TV series.

You’ve probably heard that she was married to George Lopez. Their love story inspired millions, as she donated one of her kidneys to her husband.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a match made in heaven, as the couple decided to end their relationship in 2010.

So, what happened to her after the divorce? And is she still single?

In this post, I’ll tell you all about Ann Serrano, from her early life to her career and net worth. I’ll also dive deep into her relationship with Lopez.

Let’s jump into the details!

Ann Serrano’s Early Life and Family

Ann Serrano’s Early Life and Family

Ann Serrano was born on December 18th, 1960. She was born in the heart of Hartford, Connecticut. After a while, they moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Her parents were Cuban immigrants who found success in the U.S. Her father, Julio, was a well-known doctor, who was the official physician for Fort Luaderdale’s employees.

He also had a private practice and was a consulting physician for multiple companies. Sadly, he passed away in a tragic car crash in 1987.

Her Mom, Norda Rozan, was an anesthesiologist. She relocated to America after graduating from medicine school. Dr. Norda Rozan passed away in 2010.

Ann has a brother and a sister. Unfortunately, we don’t know a lot about Anna’s brother.

Her sister, on the other hand, had a tough life. Norda Winkler was a suspect in the murder of her husband. She was committed to a mental institution in 2005, and we don’t have any updates about her situation.

Ann Serrano’s Career

After graduating from the School of Medicine at the University of Havana, Ann Serrano started her career as an actress.

Serrano made many appearances in popular TV shows, like Arrested Development, Life with Bonnie, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Yet, Ann was always interested in writing and producing movies. She wrote one episode in the George Lopez TV series, and produced multiple projects, including the following:

  • Carlos Almaraz: Playing with Fire (2019)
  • Autumn (2018)
  • Mr. Troop Mom (2009)
  • George Lopez: Tall, Dark & Chicano (2009)

Ann Serrano’s Relationship with Goerge Lopez

Ann and George met in 1990 and it was love at first sight. The couple started dating right away, and they tied the knot three years later in a private ceremony in San Fernando, California.

In 1996, the couple had their first child, Mayan Lopez. Serrano and Lopez had the time of their lives working together on several projects. However, it all went downhill, as Lopez faced a health crisis.

George’s kidneys were failing, and his condition was deteriorating quickly. It was clear that he’d need a kidney transplant as soon as possible. Luckily, Ann jumped to the rescue and didn’t think twice about giving one of her kidneys to her husband.

This experience changed their lives forever and Lopez was back on his feet in no time. After the surgery, they started supporting families affected by kidney disease. Not only that, but the couple founded the Ann and George Foundation to raise awareness about kidney diseases and support those in need.

Unfortunately, Ann and George started growing apart. Lopez was always working late into the night, leaving Serrano with their baby daughter.

The saddest part is that George stated that his father walked out on him and his mother didn’t help him out throughout his life. As a result, he didn’t know how to be the best husband or the perfect father.

Sad, I know, but Serrano couldn’t do it on her own and ran out of patience. By 2010, their marriage was on the rocks, so they decided to get a divorce.

It was a shock to everyone and it happened too fast. The divorce was finalized in 2011, and you could tell they ended things on good terms.

After the Divorce

After the split, Serrano sought the custody of Mayan. Yet, Lopez and Serrano remained friends and co-parents of Mayan.

In a surprising move, Lopez changed the name of the foundation to be “George Lopez Foundation.” It’s unclear whether or not Ann is still part of the foundation.

As of September 2023, both George and Ann are still single. Generally, Ann loves keeping her personal life private. Her social media accounts aren’t public, and she hasn’t made a lot of appearances since the divorce.

On the bright side, Mayan is active on social media. She posts some pictures of Serrano from time to time on Instagram, and she seems as happy as ever.

With a family deeply involved in the entertainment industry, Mayan grew up dreaming about becoming an actress.

As she grew up, Mayan’s love for comedy was evolving. She started studying comedy writing and acting in college with the hopes of being part of Saturday Night Live one day. In addition to that, she studied sketch comedy and improvisation at the Second City in Chicago.

The young star appeared in Mr. Troop Mom and Handsome: A Netflix Mystery Movie. In 2022, Mayan achieved her dream of starring on a show alongside her dad.

Lopez vs. Lopez premiered on NBC in November 2022. In the series, George and Mayan play as fictionalized versions of their personalities. The show was a hit! It was renewed for another season shortly after. So, we’ll get to see more of the Lopez family again.

Ann Serrano’s Net Worth
